Who we are

We’re Lid Life. A UK motorcycle community. Our website is lidlife.co.uk.

Any questions about this policy, drop us a line at hello@lidlife.uk.

Comments

If you leave a comment on the site, we collect what’s in the comment form – your name, email, and what you’ve written – plus your IP address and browser information. This is purely for spam detection. Nobody here wants a comment section full of dodgy supplement ads.

Your email address may be used to check whether you have a Gravatar profile picture set up. If you do, it’ll show up next to your comment once approved. Gravatar’s own privacy policy lives at automattic.com/privacy.

Media

If you upload images to the site, strip out any embedded location data (EXIF GPS) before you do. We don’t want your home address embedded in a photo of your bike, and neither do you. Anyone visiting the site can download images and extract that data if it’s in there.

Cookies

Cookies are small files that sit in your browser. Here’s what we use them for:

Comments. If you leave a comment, you can opt to save your name, email, and website so you don’t have to retype them next time. Those cookies last one year.

Login. When you log in to your Lid Life account, we set cookies to keep you signed in. Login cookies last two days. Screen preference cookies last a year. Tick “Remember Me” and you’ll stay logged in for two weeks. Log out, and the login cookies are cleared.

Editing. If you edit or publish a piece of content on the site, a temporary cookie records the post ID. It contains nothing personal and expires after one day.

Browser check. When you hit the login page, we set a short-lived cookie to confirm your browser accepts cookies. It holds no personal data and disappears when you close your browser.

Embedded content from other websites

Some articles include embedded content – videos, maps, social posts and the like. Embedded content from other sites behaves exactly as if you’d visited those sites directly. They may collect data about you, use their own cookies, and track how you interact with the embedded content. If you’re logged into those platforms, they may track you there too. That’s between you and them.

Who we share your data with

We don’t sell your data. We don’t pass it to advertisers. If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email – that’s standard practice, not surveillance.

Comments are run through an automated spam detection service before going live.

How long we keep your data

Comments and their associated metadata are kept indefinitely. This lets us recognise and approve follow-up comments from the same person without holding everything in a moderation queue.

If you register on the site, your profile information is stored until you ask us to remove it. You can view, edit, or delete your personal information at any time from your account settings. The one thing you can’t change yourself is your username. Website admins can see and edit profile information where necessary.

Your rights

You have the right to know what data we hold about you. You have the right to request a copy of it. You have the right to ask us to delete it.

If you have an account or have left comments, email hello@lidlife.uk and we’ll sort it. The only exception is data we’re legally required to keep – we can’t delete that, but we’ll tell you what it is and why.

Where your data goes

Visitor comments are checked through an automated spam detection service. Your data isn’t dispatched to anywhere else without a good reason and without telling you.
