Triumph looks set to give us all another excuse to loiter in cafés and argue about exhaust notes, with the Thruxton 400 expected to roll into showrooms next year. And yes – before you ask – we’re already mentally clearing garage space and making promises to ourselves about “just going to have a look”.

Building on the success of Triumph’s new 400cc platform, the Thruxton 400 brings proper café racer vibes to a more accessible package. Think classic Thruxton attitude – semi-fairing, clip-on bars, a sculpted teardrop tank and that unmistakable nose-down, tail-up stance – but without needing a second mortgage or forearms like Popeye.

Under the sleek retro bodywork sits a tuned version of Triumph’s 398cc TR-Series single-cylinder engine, producing around 41-42 bhp and 37.5 Nm of torque. It’s paired with a six-speed gearbox and delivers a usable blend of punch for both city streets and weekend blasts. Modern amenities include a full LED lighting package, analogue-plus-LCD instrumentation, ride-by-wire throttle, dual-channel ABS and traction control – nice touches that keep things sensible without turning it into a rolling iPad.

Pricing for the Thruxton 400 will be £5,,745 for the naked version and £5,995 for the Cafe Racer. That price point puts classic café racer style and British badge allure within reach of riders who previously might’ve only dreamed of owning a Thruxton.

Styling is where this one really matters, and early signs point to Triumph leaning hard into its retro roots. Compared with its naked siblings, the Thruxton sports a more forward-leaning riding position, rear-set pegs and a classic café racer silhouette that will turn heads whether you’re at a Sunday ride-out or outside your favourite espresso stop.

For newer riders, the Thruxton 400 could be a seriously tempting way into the Triumph family. For experienced riders, it looks like the sort of bike you buy “for quick rides” and then somehow end up keeping forever. We’ve all been there. No judgement.
