£30m of Motorcycles Seized in Mexico as FBI Hunts Ex-Olympic Snowboarder on Ten Most Wanted List
£30m of Motorcycles Seized in Mexico as FBI Hunts Ex-Olympic Snowboarder on Ten Most Wanted List
You know that feeling when you open the garage door expecting a slightly-leaky chain and a half-eaten bacon bap… and instead you find a full-blown superbike showroom? Yeah. Mexican authorities have just found something like that.
According to US authorities, Wedding (44) is believed to be living in Mexico, allegedly under the protection of the Sinaloa Cartel. There’s also a reward of up to $15 million for information leading to his arrest. That’s a lot of tyres, fuel… and “sorry-love-it-followed-me-home” excuses.
From Olympic Slopes to Serious Charges
Wedding competed for Canada at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, finishing 24th in the men’s parallel giant slalom. Fast-forward a couple of decades and he’s now accused of running a multi-national drug trafficking network.
Authorities also say he faces charges connected to the killing of a federal witness. In the wider case, multiple other defendants have reportedly been arrested under a federal indictment unsealed in California.
The Bike Haul: “Dozens” Doesn’t Even Cover It
Mexican authorities executed multiple search warrants this month and recovered a large number of motorcycles believed to be owned by Wedding. The FBI later put the estimated value at around $40m.
- Dozens of motorcycles seized (the kind of numbers that make your local bike night look like a quiet Tuesday).
- Other items confiscated included artworks and medals.
- The operation involved cooperation with Mexican authorities, the RCMP, and the LAPD.
We’re not saying every rider needs a bigger garage… but if you’re “misplacing” £30m worth of bikes, you’re definitely going to need more than a single Abba-style shed and a damp tarp.
How Big Was This Alleged Operation?
Authorities allege Wedding worked closely with the Sinaloa Cartel to funnel large quantities of drugs into the US and Canada. He was charged in 2024 with running a drug ring accused of moving around 60 tons of cocaine a year, using long-haul lorries to shift drugs between Colombia, Mexico, Southern California, and Canada.
Investigators also allege a witness was identified and later killed after a photo was posted on a Canadian website. It’s an ugly side of organised crime – and a reminder that the “fast life” doesn’t just come with speeding tickets and questionable haircut choices.
Lid Life Take
It’s a properly strange headline, this one: Olympic athlete, cartels, a Ten Most Wanted slot, and a pile of bikes worth more than most of our combined “one day” dream garages. But behind the shiny machines is a serious investigation with some grim allegations.
Ride safe, look after your mates, and if your bike ever “goes missing” from the garage… maybe start by checking you didn’t lend it to a friend who “just needs it for a quick spin.” We’ve all been there. (Well… not the £30m part.)
