Kamil Holán Passes Away at 2026 North West 200
We are heartbroken to report that Czech road racer Kamil Holán, 48, has died following a crash during the Superbike qualifying session at the 2026 North West 200.
The motorcycle road racing community is mourning the loss of Kamil Holán, the Czech Superbike competitor succumb to injuries on Thursday 7th May 2026 following an incident at Station Corner during the morning’s qualifying session at the North West 200.
The session got underway at just after 9:50am before being red-flagged at around 10:04am. Emergency services attended the scene immediately, but despite their best efforts, Holán sadly passed away at the trackside. He was 48 years old.
Organisers, the Coleraine and District Motor Club, released a statement confirming the tragedy:
“A competitor at the 2026 Briggs Equipment North West 200 has died following an incident at Station Corner on the NW200 course during this morning’s Superbike qualifying session. The session was immediately red flagged and emergency services attended the scene but unfortunately the rider succumbed to his injuries. The family have given their approval for the event to continue but have requested that the rider not be named at this time. Coleraine and District Motor Club, the organisers of the races, offer our sincere condolences to the family and team.”
Holán’s name was subsequently confirmed later that evening. He had taken part in the opening qualifying session the previous day, posting a Superstock lap time of 5:28.168, placing 30th in class – a solid showing for a rider competing on one of the world’s most demanding road racing circuits.
A life devoted to road racing
Kamil Holán was widely respected within European road racing circles. Revered in his home country as one of Czech road racing’s most committed figures, he had competed at some of the sport’s most iconic events over the course of his career, from the famous Hořice circuit in the Czech Republic to the North West 200’s fearsome coastal roads. His dedication to the sport, year after year, on circuits that demand everything from a rider, defined who he was.
Those who knew him remember not just a committed racer, but a genuinely passionate individual who loved what he did and brought that energy to every event he attended.
The 20th fatality in NW200 history
The incident marks the 20th fatality associated with the North West 200 since the event’s inception, and the first since Supertwins rider Malachi Mitchell-Thomas lost his life a decade ago. The 14.436km triangular course on the north Antrim coast is one of the fastest road racing circuits in the world, and the risks riders accept to compete there are understood and accepted by those who take part. That does not make moments like this any easier.
The remainder of Thursday’s qualifying programme was affected by the incident, with sessions rescheduled into the afternoon. The event has continued with the family’s blessing.
Road racing’s cost
Pure road racing is unlike any other form of motorsport. The riders who line up at events like the North West 200, the Isle of Man TT, and the Ulster Grand Prix do so fully aware of what they’re taking on. They choose it. Kamil Holán chose it, year after year, because it was where he belonged.
That choice deserves to be honoured, not sensationalised. What matters now is that a rider, a competitor, a man who gave everything to this sport, has been lost and that his family and team are given the space and respect they need.
Our thoughts are with everyone who knew him.
Kamil Holán, 1972–2026.
