Yamaha YE‑01 Racing Concept: Yamaha’s First Electric Motocrosser Charges In
Revving into the future (without a petrol snarl)
Yamaha has just dropped the YE‑01 Racing Concept, their brand-new electric motocross machine that’s not dreaming of the future – it’s charging into it full tilt. Revealed at EICMA 2025, it’s built for the new MXEP electric series. Yep, a motocross bike with zero exhaust tantrums, just punchy torque and fewer burnt eyebrows.
Under the skin: old-school chassis, new-school powertrain
- Chassis borrowed from the upcoming YZ450F – race-ready geometry, KYB suspension, slimline plastics. Basically, it’s got the fight in it.
- Electric motor co-developed with French spark wizards Electric Motion, complete with liquid cooling.
- Hydraulic clutch. Yes, really. Because not every rider’s ready to give up their left-hand fidget toy just yet.
- Battery slung low and central – Yamaha’s keen on keeping the handling feel familiar. Throttle response might be new-school, but the ride feel? Still properly Yamaha.

Why it matters (and why we’re grinning)
MXEP ready: Yamaha’s got skin in the electric game now, and this is their race pass.
Zero-emissions, full-send: Still snarling, just in a lower frequency.
Traditional bones, future heart: Familiar frame and ride feel = confidence for old-school riders.
Innovation meets roost: Who said electric had to feel sterile? Not Yamaha.
Still got questions?
Of course we do:
- It’s a concept for now. No production date, no price, and no guarantee you’ll see it outside the MXEP paddock… yet.
- Performance promises are bold – Yamaha says it’ll hang with MXGP bikes. That’s spicy. We’ll believe it when we’re scraping mud off the number plate.
- Charging, swappability, and track‑day practicality? Still unknown. But if anyone can sort it, Yamaha can.
Final word – clutching the future
If you’d told us five years ago Yamaha would launch an electric motocross bike with a clutch and real motocross soul, we’d have laughed, checked your fuel level, and gone for a blast. But here we are – the YE‑01 is the real deal, or close enough to get excited.
The future doesn’t have to ditch the fun – and Yamaha just proved it. If this is the start of electric dirtbikes with proper feel, sign us up – just don’t forget the goggle wipe.
Stick around – we talk bikes, bodges, and biscuits.
